It is the most famous nature playground in “the city that never sleeps,” estimated to be worth a mind-blowing $528,783,552,000! New York City’s Central Park is one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the world.
The idea for Central Park came about in the mid 1800s when the city decided to set aside some land so that its residents could have a wonderful place to escape the constant buzz of the big city. They cleared 750 acres and began landscaping the Park.
Once a place to avoid due to its high crime rate, today Central Park is considered one of the safest parks in the world. During the winter months the Park becomes a winter wonderland with snow-covered trails, icicles dangling from every branch and Christmas decorations adorning every light. When visiting Central Park in the winter, there are a few things that you absolutely must not miss main attractions.
Gapstow Bridge
For a truly romantic vision be sure to visit the Gapstow Bridge, which is widely known as Love Bridge. This small stone bridge, with its charming arched structure symbolizing the romanticism of Central Park, is featured on many New York Holidays Photo cards. The iconic Love Bridge spans forty-four feet and rises twelve feet above the water and offers one of the best views of the New York City skyline.
Wollman Rink
Located at the southern end of Central Park, Wollman Rink is a spectacular ice-skating arena that you really should enjoy when you visit NYC during the Holidays. Designed and built in 1949 with a $600,000 donation from Kate Wollman, the rink added another great feature to the Park and has been a success since the day it opened.
Thousands of skaters glide across the ice all year long, but skating in the winter is even more special. Interestingly, Donald Trump recently purchased Wollman Rink, another jewel to add to his collection.
Horse-drawn Carriage Ride
Uniquely New York, a Carriage Ride through Central Park is an amazing experience, especially during the winter. The Park is absolutely gorgeous at night and riding in a horse-drawn carriage with no cars and no commotion is nothing short of magical. Don’t forget your hat, scarf and gloves because it will be chilly.
Experiencing these places and activities will create memories to last a lifetime. To keep those memories alive and to commemorate Central Park, purchase one of our gorgeous prints of the Park. With a glance of the eye, you will be able to relive your time in New York City’s Central Park.
It goes without saying that our magnificent collection of prints, cards and souvenirs will transport you back to this magical place every day of the year, no matter where you are. We invite you to look around.
